Work
Consulted for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in Jefferson County to expand access to the free and reduced meal program for children and families over the summer. This was in partnership with the national anti-hunger campaign, No Kid Hungry – www.nokidhungry.org
Approach
Performed community-based public liaison and marketing functions for SFSP sites to identify and attract children and families through local businesses, churches, and apartment complexes by distributing printed materials, networking with community partners, recruiting volunteers, and producing content for web and social media outlets
• Identified and monitored new SFSP sites and secured sponsors for those sites
• Provided technical support to SFSP sites for community outreach
• Worked collaboratively as a liaison with city, school, and community stake holders
Result
We increased attendance to current school food sites and launched four new sights including a food bus that transported a cook staff and meals to be delivered to food desert communities.
